Abstract:

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT ((BLS)) following by Advanced cardiac LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS) is intended to rescue the patients with acute circulatory or respiratory failure or both. The most important determinant of short and long-term neurologically intact survival is the interval from the onset of the cardiac or respiratory onset to restoration of effective spontaneous functions of these vital activities. It is commonly accepted that every physician, regardless of specialty, should be able to  perform CPR. It must be also emphasized that CPR, almost invariably, necessitates a rapid interventional follow-care with ACLS procedure.Without well-performed BASIC LIFE SUPPORT, advanced cardiac LIFE SUPPORT is of no remark-: able benefit, (BLS) and ACLS are processes that must be performed step by step and with respect to the patient's condition.

Abstract:

Introduction: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is one of the most BASIC and vital skills that a person should learn throughout his LIFE. Carrying out this action is so essential and LIFE-saving that knowing and doing it correctly means saving a human LIFE. One of the target groups for teaching CPR and BASIC resuscitation skills, is teachers, especially physical education teachers, due to the possibility of heart failure during sports activities in children. In this study, we investigated the level of knowledge of BASIC LIFE SUPPORT ((BLS)) in physical education teachers of Kashan schools in 2023. Materials and methods: The current study is a cross-sectional study that was conducted on all the physical education teachers of Kashan schools who were willing to participate in the study (n=80). The requirement for entering the study was attending schools in the last year. In this study, demographic information, including age, sex, was asked from the participants by interviewers and recorded in the checklist. Then, the participants were asked to complete a standard questionnaire related to the level of (BLS) knowledge. Results: The number of men was slightly higher than that of women. The average age of the participants was 40.24 ± 8.05 years. 78.8% of the participants admitted that they had received training in in (BLS), and 50.8% of them were trained in the university before graduation. The average score of participants' knowledge in the field of CPR was 3.95±1.69. Among the variables of gender, age, educational level of coaching, duration of coaching and receiving (BLS) training, the level of CPR knowledge was found to have a significant relationship with the age variable (P=0.03). The fear of doing it wrong was reported to be the most worrying issue for performing resuscitation measures. Also, 60% of the participants admitted that they have no knowledge about the defibrillator device and only one person knew how to use the defibrillator and where it is located in the patient's body. Conclusion: The level of knowledge of BASIC LIFE SUPPORT in the physical education teachers of Kashan schools is reported to be lower than the average level, and according to the findings of this study, it is recommended to hold training courses for them periodically to increase their knowledge.

Abstract:

Introduction: It is imperative, if not fundamental, for medical students to receive continuing education in BASIC LIFE SUPPORT ((BLS)). This present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of continuing education using social media in this regard. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, a questionnaire containing 20 items about (BLS) awareness was completed by the interns who were trainedmonthly in the emergency medicine training course. Then half of the interns received distant education through Telegramsoftware up to three months, and the other did not receive any further education. Again, both groups completed the questionnaire at the end of the third month. Results: 100 medical interns with the mean age of 25. 05 § 1. 26 years were allocated to two groups of 50 subjects (65. 0% female). Two groups were similar regarding the mean age (p = 0. 304), gender (p = 0. 529), mean awareness score at the beginning of the study (p = 0. 916), and average pre-internship exam score (p = 0. 080). The mean awareness score of medical interns increased significantly in intervention (11. 44 § 2. 37 to 14. 88 § 1. 97, p < 0. 0001) and control (11. 38 § 3. 22 to 12. 54 § 3. 04, p < 0. 0001) groups at second examination. But mean difference of awareness score, before and after the education, was significantly higher in intervention group (3. 44 § 1. 48 versus 1. 16 § 1. 51; p < 0. 0001). Conclusion: The increase in the (BLS) awareness score was significantly higher in medical interns who were continuously educated using Telegram social media software.

Abstract:

Introduction: BASIC LIFE SUPPORT ((BLS)) is a medical treatment used in LIFE-threatening emergencies until the sufferer can be properly cared for by a team of paramedics or in a hospital. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge regarding (BLS) and the contributing factors among the Arab non-medical population. Methods: An online survey-based cross-sectional study was conducted among non-medical populations in nine Arab countries between April 13, 2022, and June 30, 2022. The utilized questionnaire consisted of two parts: part one included socio-demographic characteristics and part two measured knowledge of (BLS) through an online survey. Results: The research included a total of 4465 participants. 2540 (56. 89%) of the participants were knowledgeable about (BLS). Themean BASIC LIFE SUPPORT knowledge scores of participants who received training were higher than those who had not (20. 11 ±,4. 20 vs. 16. 96 ±,5. 27,p< 0. 01). According to the nations, Yemen scored the highest, whileMorocco had the lowest levels of (BLS) knowledge (19. 86 ±,4. 71 vs. 14. 15 ±,5. 10, respectively,p< 0. 01). Additionally, individuals who resided in urban areas scored on average higher than those who did in rural areas (17. 86 ±,5. 19 vs. 17. 13 ±,5. 24, p= 0. 032) in understanding BASIC LIFE SUPPORT. Age, information sources, and previous training with theoretical and practical classes were significant predictors of (BLS) knowledge. Conclusion: The level of (BLS) knowledge among non-medical people in Arab nations is moderate but insufficient to handle the urgent crises that we face everywhere. In addition to physicians being required to learn the (BLS) principles, non-medical people should also be knowledgeable of the necessary actions to take in emergency events.

Abstract:

Gamification i.e., the incorporation of game design elements into non-game contexts, represents a transformative tool in health education. In this sense, the increasingly intertwined fields of technology, education, and health present opportunities for informed decision-making and the training of educators, health professionals, and policymakers. This need to improve teaching and learning methods is particularly evident in the areas of first aid and BASIC LIFE SUPPORT ((BLS)), with the aim of improving clinical results and health outcomes. Our article carried out a narrative review, focusing on the intersection of gamification, technology and first aid/(BLS) training with the aim of investigating the application of gamification and serious games in emergency medicine with the aim of improving motivation and theoretical and practical skills. of health professionals. In addition, this review emphasizes the role of simulation-based education in first aid skills training, highlighting its contribution to preparing first aiders for real-world scenarios. Ultimately, this review underscores the transformative potential of serious games in medical education, showcasing their effectiveness across diverse contexts. In summary, it enhances comprehension of gamification's role in healthcare and medical education, particularly in first aid training, by underscoring the adaptability and efficacy of serious games in revolutionizing medical and emergency education and healthcare. Nevertheless, it underscores that this remains a relatively underexplored area of knowledge.

Abstract:

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in many societies (about 700,000 a year in Europe, and 330,000 in the United States and Canada of which 250,000 have occurred out of hospitals). Most victims of SCA demonstrate ventricular fibrillation (VF) at the first analysis of heart rhythm. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) plus defibrillation within 3 to 5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates as high as %49 to %75. The American Heart Association (AHA) established GUIDELINES for resuscitation in 1974 and has continued to revise CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) GUIDELINES based on the latest findings. Updates to AHA GUIDELINES are published approximately every 5 year, and are used as a basis for other major organization's resuscitation training. The AHA published new GUIDELINES for CPR and ECC in Nov., 2005. These GUIDELINES were the product of rigorous documentation, analysis and evaluation of existing scientific literature related to emergency care by 380 international experts on resuscitation convened by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) over a 3-year period preceding the 2005 consensus conferences on CPR and ECC. The most significant changes in the new GUIDELINES attempt to simplify CPR instruction, to increase the number of chest compressions delivered per minute and to reduce interruptions in chest compressions during CPR. This article reviews the newest recommendations for CPR in individuals at all age groups.
